ABSTRACT: This study explores innovations in assessing digital competencies in vocational students, focusing on modern evaluation methods that accurately measure digital skills essential for the workforce. The objectives were to (1) identify current practices in assessing digital competencies, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of innovative assessment tools, and (3) propose strategies to enhance digital skills assessment in vocational education. A survey design was employed to gather data from students, educators, and industry professionals, providing a comprehensive view of digital competency evaluation. The sample size included 200 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to include those actively involved in digital skills training and assessment. The case study focused on Delta State, Nigeria, a region advancing in digital technology adoption. Findings indicated that traditional assessment methods were inadequate for measuring digital competencies, often failing to capture practical application skills. Innovative assessment tools such as simulations, e-portfolios, and digital badges were found to be more effective. Recommendations included integrating these innovative tools into the assessment framework, providing training for educators on new assessment methods, and continuously updating assessment criteria to keep pace with technological advancements.
